Our CB Mission Northeast Annual Celebration will be held Monday evening and Tuesday Morning, November 15-16, 2010 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church near Springfield, MA. Although we had hoped to return to Word of Life this year, the Executive Board determined the cost of the event was too much in light of the present economy. We want as many of of churches to attend as possible.

The event will kickoff with a Celebration Banquet and time of worship on Monday Evening. An important business meeting to vote on our new bylaws will be held on Tuesday morning.

More details will be coming soon!

Honoring Andy Spohrer in his Retirement

We honor God when we honor those of His servants who have demonstrated both faithfulness and fruitfulness in service to Christ and His kingdom. So this is an invitation to honor the faithful and effective service of our good friend, Andy Spohrer, by helping a church in Ireland, a country that has been and continues to be so very dear to Andy’s heart. This is what we announced at the northern New England SuperCluster meeting in November as we honored Andy for his service to our CB churches as the East Coast Representative of World Venture.

The young, growing congregation of Carrickmacross Baptist Church is eager to establish Christ’s presence in the population hub of Carrickmacross, Ireland. As the church grew and it became clear the rented facilities they’ve been using for the past 15 years would no longer be adequate, they gave generously and sacrificially to raise over $200,000 to purchase a new ministry center.

After facing various obstacles to earlier offers made on other less desirable facilities, in God’s goodness and great providence on November 30, 2009 He blessed CBC as they finally acquired a beautiful piece of property for only about one quarter of what it had listed for two years ago. The property is a large one-story house on 0.8 acre within walking distance of downtown Carrickmacross. They hope to move into their new facilities on Palm Sunday under the new name of “Woodlands Christian Centre.” Andy and Nancy are planning to attend the dedication service the church is planning in May.While the church had raised sufficient funds to purchase the property and to begin the necessary renovations, significant funds are still needed to bring the renovations to completion and to position the church for effective ministry for the next phase of the advancement of Christ’s kingdom in their community.

Besides Andy and Nancy, we have another CBMissionNortheast connection with the church in Carrickmacross. The World Venture missionaries presently working with the church are Jim and Ann-Elise Grosser, well-known to many of us as the church planter and pastor of Charlton Baptist Church (Charlton, MA) for 25 years.

Donations may be sent to WorldVenture for “Special Projects Account No. 909 - Carrickmacross Evangelism/Ministry/Training Center”. (WorldVenture, 1501 W. Mineral Avenue, Littleton, CO 80120)

Haiti Relief and Recovery Teams Forming

HaitiWhile the world marshals its forces to send massive and immediate aid to the millions of earthquake victims in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, three mission agencies have begun work to form and host volunteer teams for “second-responder” relief and rebuilding work.

DELTA Ministries International, a non-denominational, short-term agency based in Vancouver, Wash., in partnership with Missions Door, and CBAmerica has activated a relief and recovery plan formulated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. “We know this plan works,” said Tory Ruark, DELTA’s Short-Term Mission Director. “It was successfully applied after we trained and sent more than 1,000 volunteers and 80 church teams to give aid and help rebuild in the months following Katrina.”

On Tuesday, Jan. 12, Haiti experienced a 7.0 earthquake 10 miles from the capital city of Port-au-Prince where more than 2 million of the nation’s 9 million people live.  “Nearly 80-percent of the people live below the poverty line,” said Ruark. “The destruction from the earthquake and its after shocks is still not completely known, and we won’t know the death toll for many days.  What can be said for sure is that literally tens of thousands of structures from hotels, stores, official buildings and, most sadly, homes have been destroyed. Heart-wrenching pictures and stories of people being pulled from buildings and the dead on the streets speak to the misery caused by this tragedy.”

Ruark said that Missions Door currently has people on the ground in Haiti, and that DELTA is ready to begin training teams. “All we need is for churches across America to rise up and practically demonstrate the love of Christ by praying, giving and mobilizing short-term volunteer teams to help.”
